Where to Find the 7 Best Chicken and Waffles in Los Angeles Right Now

While waffles might make you think of Holland, the pilgrims were eating them back in the 1600s. They were also a familiar treat on the streets of New Amsterdam (before it became New York). Adding a big piece of fried chicken on top, though, is purely American, and we can thank Richard “Dickie” Wells and his popular 1930s Harlem supper club for creating a dish that’s perfect when it’s too early for breakfast and too late for dinner. In honor of a pretty cool limited-time collaboration between a waffle and a chicken, I decided it was time to round up the best chicken and waffles in Los Angeles into one coop. Be sure to scroll down to the end to find the one that will only be roosting in L.A. until the end of April 2023.

Poppy + Rose (DTLA)

The Chicken + Waffle at Poppy + Rose is what brunch dreams are made of. The chicken is fall-off-the-bone tender, the waffle is perfectly fluffy, and the light chive topping is genius! I guess that’s why the Chef and Owner, Michael Reed, was a semi-finalist for Best Chef in the 2023 James Beard Awards.

Poppy + Rose is open daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reservations are suggested as this place gets busy!

Hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and 4 p.m. on weekends, and it’s digital waitlist only through Yelp. Come early if you’re hungry for Met Her at a Bar.
