Eat Drink NYC Pt. 2
Here is part 2 of my fabulous food tour of NYC! Once again there’s too much to fit into one post without becoming overstimulated—so look for part 3 next week!
LA I promise I’ll come back to you soon!!
This was an impromptu Saturday breakfast made all the sweeter because we enjoyed it in a nearby park. Russ’s and Daughter’s is a smoked fish shop that’s been open since 1914 because they just do it right there! I had a very small bagel (probably the recommended size on the food pyramid) and topped it with a cream cheese laden with caviar! On the side I had slices of very pricey lox, but boy is there a difference between Russ’s and Ralph’s!!!
Marea Ristorante by Chef Michael White has become the destination for the best Italian Seafood, and for $45 dollars at lunch time you can enjoy two courses of oceanic delights!
The restaurant is across the street from Central Park but it didn’t feel touristy to me, in fact I felt I was eating with the regulars! The décor is like eating in a yacht and although a dress code isn’t enforced, all the men were wearing jackets (ahem…except the one I was with :))
The pastas are unlike any I’ve ever eaten before and I chose the Garganelli as it was a pasta I had never heard of before! This particular shape was squid ink pasta quills, made with shrimp, and seppia ragu, and topped with pecorino cheese—delish!
Mario Batali never disappoints me, and his new Late Night Roman Menu was no exception. Starting at 10 PM, Lupa offers a menu where you “eat like the Romans do”—which is late! Luckily for me it’s only 7 PM on the West Coast J. The 3 course pre-fixe menu includes a glass of wine and only costs $29!! Although the appetizer was nothing to write home about, the pasta was possibly better than Marea and half the price!
Dining by candlelight, eating Bavette Cacio & Pepe (salt and pepper pasta) and staring at my fiancé—what a way to end my notte!
Love it.
