July 4th starts on June 30th!
July 4th 2017 is just around the corner and I’ve got your summer ready to go!
The 4th falls on a Tuesday this year and if you’re lucky enough your long weekend begins on Friday June 30th!! That’s a 5 day blitz folks. Get excited!
Friday June 30th 2017
One of my favorite things about summer has to be the abundance of FREE outdoor concerts that are available in Los Angeles. Perfect for all ages it’s a chance for adults to feel like kids again too.
6 PM: LACMA’s Jazz Concert Series and the music of Angie Wells. Although food is allowed, outside alcohol is not (it is allowed on Saturday’s though :)). Luckily for you there is a Ray’s & Stark Bar right next door.
7:30 PM: Vieux Farka Toure at the Levitt Pavilion in Macarthur Park. Best of all you can bring your own food and dranks to this one. Keep things cool with a few treats from Sweet Rose Creamery like Strawberry Milk Popsicles and Blueberry Ice Cream Pie with graham cracker crust, blueberry ice cream, whipped milk, and blueberry compote.
Saturday July 1st
4-7 PM: Could there be a better combination then the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills and Pink’s Hot Dogs? The hotel will pay homage to the legendary Hollywood restaurant staple with a special 4th of July event pop up event offering made-to-order All-Beef Hot Dogs, Veggie Dogs, and Turkey Dogs, as well as toppings like Pink’s Famous Chili, cheese, mustard, onions, relish, ketchup and sauerkraut.
Sweeten the deal with a visit to the Ice Cream or house-baked Apple Pie Station ($6). Then finish it all off with a Peroni Beer on Draft ($7).
Hotel guests receive one complimentary hot dog but for the rest of us the cost is still just $6, the same as the La Brea Ave stand.
5 PM: Remember that boozy concert I mentioned before? Well it’s tonight as part of LACMA’s Latin Concert Series. Bring a picnic and rock out to the sounds of Conjunto Costazul! Enjoy the video below for a preview of your bliss!
Sunday July 2nd
All Day: Be one of the first to enter the tallest tower on the west coast, The Wilshire Grand Center in Downtown Los Angeles when the InterContinental Hotel inside opens today! Room rates start at $379 and that gets you access to the tallest open air bar on the western hemisphere, Spire 73, located on the 73rd floor. I’ve been told kids are allowed but in the words of a friendly operator, “why would you want to” :).
4-7 PM: If you didn’t make it around to the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills for your hot dog and Peroni, you still have a chance today!
Monday July 3rd
All Day: Looking for a place to hideout for the day? Then head to The Hideout, the latest food and beverage installation by STK at W Los Angeles – West Beverly Hills. The poolside restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch and best of all kids are allowed! Menu highlights include Dijon Grilled Sonoma Lamb Loin with cippolini, Roquefort butter, grilled grapes, and warm arugula and sweet treats like the Strawberries N’ Cream featuring a shortbread cookie, white chocolate cremeux and strawberry sherbet. Seasonal cocktails made with fresh herbs and juice are always available as well as a robust wine list.
If you’re not staying the hotel then look for the entry hidden on Hilgard Avenue to the right of the hotel entrance.
July 4th 2017
All Day kicking off at 7 AM: Danny Trejo clearly never sleeps. Hot on the heels of his newest Trejo’s Cantina opening in Pasadena, Trejo’s Coffee & Donuts is getting in on the action too. Celebrate your independence with an “Old Glory” Donut. It will be the only donut available that day from 7 AM until sell out.
6:00 PM: Diamondbacks at Dodgers plus 4th of July Fireworks
There’s no better way to end your 5 day weekend then with a huge fireworks display. All the Los Angeles standards remain but if you really want to celebrate being an American then consider enjoying one of America’s favorite pastimes, a baseball game a Dodger Stadium.
