5 Best Fall Cocktails in Los Angeles
As the weather cools down, here’s where you can warm up with the 5 best Fall cocktails in Los Angeles.
Birds and Bees (Downtown Los Angeles)
You might feel like you’ve arrived at the wrong address, but the speakeasy-style Birds and Bees is actually located at the back of what looks like an abandoned office building. You’ll know you’ve made it when you see a bouncer at the end of a dark parking lot who ushers you into a long corridor that feels more like an underground escape route from World War II.
Pass through the yellow door and suddenly you’ve time-traveled to the 1950s. Louis Armstrong’s trumpet is blaring over the speakers, the war is over, and life is good!
The cocktail program created by Jake Larowe is broken into two sections: What would they Drink based on stars of the 1950s and Los Angeles neighborhoods.
The best Fall cocktails in Los Angeles include the Olho Do Tigre inspired by Los Feliz. Elements include avua amburana cachaca, amaretto, quince, house tiki bitters (that take 3 weeks to make), and a dash of nutmeg ($15).
On the Celebrity Side of the menu I’m all about the Tom Lehrer; you can literally taste the passion that went into this 3 rum cocktail. It’s also infused with fresh banana, carpano antica, and those house made tiki bitters ($14).
If you’ve come to the bar hungry then your must-order is the Elvis Presley. It’s made with peanut infused bourbon, fresh berry Gomme, Licor 43, and served with a slice of banana bread. In my case it was pumpkin bread–this is a fall cocktail after all ($16).
Birds and Bees is open starting at 5 PM every day except Sundays and Mondays. Visit during Violet Hour from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, to get $8 cocktails like classic Daiquiris and my personal favorite the Gin Martini.
Toca Madera (West Hollywood)
Kicking off this month, Toca Madera is celebrating fall with Mezcal Mondays! Each month will feature a new mezcal and for November it’s El Silencio mezcal.
My must-have fall cocktail is a Siempre crafted with El Silencio Espadin, cucumber, gran classico bitter, lemon and egg white.
Mezcal Mondays run from 5 PM till close and live music begins
The Raymond 1886 (Pasadena)
Flu season creeping in on you? Then you need this Purple & Gold cocktail from the “Wealth & Hellness” cocktail menu at The Raymond 1886.
Created by Abby Peoples, its a fine balance of orgeat, vida mezcal, and homemade blueberry bliss syrup; topped with a waffle and blueberry garnish.
Mon-Li (Malibu)
12-course cocktail tasting anyone? Located at the Calamigos Beach Club, Mon-Li is a 12 person, 12-course liquid tasting menu created by Cocktail Chef Matthew Biancaniello.
While you might be weary about drinking 12 cocktails in one seating, take comfort in the fact that it also includes 5 courses of “sustainable bites”.
My favorite fall cocktail here is a blend of frozen bananas, cream and chanterelles, Ogo seaweed-infused bourbon, and a burning pine cone.
The price is $150 before tax and gratuity and while normally open Thursdays-Saturday from 6 PM-8:30 PM.
Lunetta All Day (Santa Monica)
Cocktails taste a little cheekier at Lunetta All Day, like Ma, The Shirt Don’t Fit created by Mixologist Will Nozick. Ingredients include Monkey Shoulder fresh lemon juice, honey syrup, allspice dram shrub, Angostura bitters, and vegan egg white bitters.
Happy Hour kicks off at 4 PM Monday-Friday! And these cocktails are nothing to lose your shirt over.
