As an addendum to my I Love NYC piece I wanted to mention my new favorite spot, Bemelman’s Bar —located inside the equally iconic Caryle Hotel.
Named for Ludwig Bemelmans-the creator of the Madeline books, (who also did all the murals) this bar is quintessential Manhattan and offers a completely transformative experience. Dimly lit bistro tables and piano accompaniment will cause you to lose track or yourself-and the time-in more ways than one.
Cocktails here will put you back at least $20 but the free-flowing snacks and no cover charge before 9:30 PM make it a more than affordable Iconic New York Night.
Rather than Scattering my ashes at Berdorf’s-you can bury me at Bemelmans Bar and “tell them it was wonderful”.
