Here’s What to Order at Teleferic Barcelona in Brentwood
Spanish food is having a major moment in Los Angeles, thanks in part to hot spots like Teleferic Barcelona, the 30-year-old Basque institution, which after making major waves in the Bay Area, has now chosen Brentwood for its latest restaurant destination in California. Here’s what to order at Teleferic Barcelona in Brentwood if you want to ride to the top in style.
Tapas
Teleferic Barcelona first made a name for itself by popularizing the concept of pintxos and tapas, from the Basque region of Spain, in their restaurant in Sant Cugat, Barcelona. At Teleferic Barcelona in Brentwood, you can’t go wrong with ANY of the fourteen Tapas on the menu, but a few were standouts and a must if it’s your first time:
Croquetas
There is a lot of Jamon, or ham, on the menu at any good Spanish restaurant, but you’ll also find a seafood counterpart for almost any popular item. While I’m partial to the Ham Croquetas with jamon Iberico and aioli, you can also keep things fresh with the Crab Croquetas topped with tuna sashimi and spicy aioli.
Jamon Iberico de Bellota
Yes, more ham, but it’s really that good. This dish is the shoulder of a Jamon Iberico that’s been cured for 38 months after enjoying a diet of acorns. It’s often paired with a Pan con Tomate toasted bread, which works well if you have vegetarians at your table – just keep them away from the chorizo butter.
While the Jamon Iberico de Bellota is the most expensive of the Tapas, it’s a huge portion, so there’s a good chance you’ll be bringing some home.
Pulpo Teleferic
This Galician octopus comes swimming in truffle oil and a pimenton potato puree that is absolutely irresistible. Be sure to have some bread available to scoop up any available sauce.
Gambas al Ajillo
Speaking of bread, the Gambas al Ajillo gulf shrimp comes with a nice side of crispy toast. Enjoy this dish along with the Pulpo Teleferic, and you won’t have a drop of oil left on the table.
Platos and Paellas
These are your main dishes, which often can be shared. On the Platos side, you have Catalan Tomahawk prime rib eye and a Catalan Cod, among others. As far as Paellas go, though, the possibilities seem endless, ranging from a Maine Lobster Paella to a Paella Veggie, which is gluten-free and vegan, to a Paella Mixta, which seems to have every animal on their menu in it.
Paella Negra
One of their most popular paellas is the Paella Negra, which is made with gulf shrimp, scallops, octopus, clams, and squid ink that colors the rice and gives the dish its name.
Greens
Pair all that puerco with something a little more fibrous. The Gazpacho Porron is a watermelon tartare with basil oil, and the Bruselas are Brussels sprouts hidden beneath a manchego foam with lemon honey dressing. I only promised a little more fiber…
Desserts
When you don’t know what to order at Teleferic Barcelona in Brentwood, go with everything! The Trio Selection includes the Churros con Nutella, the Torrija (french toast with Catalan cream), and the Chocolate Cheesecake. While I wanted the fluffy Torrija to be my favorite, it was hands down the Churros con Nutella, which came out warm and just perfect.
Drinks
You only have to see this place packed on a Tuesday with full tables of ladies swirling large colorful glasses to know there’s something special about the drinks. There is a full list of Craft Cocktails along with a Wine List, but to truly get the feel of this particular restaurant, I recommend choosing either a Gin & Tonic or one of the Sangrias.
Ibiza G&T
The Ibiza Gin & Tonic is one of the most fun, as it’s made with a butterfly pea tea-infused gin that transforms into a party before your eyes. The Miro G&T is also unique as it’s crafted with strawberry gin.
Sangria Flight
When you can’t choose between the Spicy and the Barceloneta Sangria, get them both. The Sangria Flight comes with all of the above as well as the Teleferic Sangria. Their most popular is the Barceloneta, with rosemary lemonade and prickly pear juice, but I was partial to the Spicy, which includes serrano pepper vodka. The Teleferic is like the dark and stormy sister, with a mix of red wine, gin, brandy, cinnamon, and mint.
