Choose your Lobos 1707
The Lobos 1707 brand has several Tequilas to choose from, but I’ll be highlighting the two I think work best in this recipe. The first is a Lobos 1707 Joven Tequila; it’s an unaged Blanco with a hint of Reposado that has been aged in sherry casks. The second is a Lobos 1707 Reposado Tequila that features 100% Blue Weber Agave that has been aged for six months in American white oak barrels, then finished with some Lobos 1707 Extra Añejo Tequila before spending a little more time in some historic Pedro Ximénez wine barrels. I like the Reposado for its complex oak and chocolate notes. It will deepen the flavor of your skinny cocktail without needing to add Cointreau.
What Comes Next?
For a proper Skinny Margarita, you need Light Agave (make it Organic for extra health points), Fresh Limes, and Fresh Oranges. That’s it! I used a New Orleans Cajun Seasoning on the rim for this Skinny Margarita to spice things up.
Time needed: 5 minutes
How to make a Lobos 1707 Skinny Margarita
- Grab a Cocktail Shaker or a Tall Glass
Add ice to the bottom of a cocktail shaker.
- Add in Fresh Juices
Squeeze one whole lime and half an orange or an entire tangerine into the shaker.
- Stir in Light Agave
Add one tablespoon of light agave and stir it around your ice in the shaker.
- Now for the fun part: Pour in Tequila
Add two shots of Lobos 1707 Joven or Reposado Tequila to the shaker.
- Shake it Up, Baby!
Shake the cocktail shaker for at least 30 seconds or stir rapidly if you’re using a large glass.
- Prep your Glass
Pour your desired seasoning salt into a small dish. Next, rub the rim of your chosen vessel with a lime wedge leftover from squeezing in step 3. Lastly, dip the glass into the seasoning salt and twist to get a good rim going.
- Pour and Enjoy!
Strain the liquid into your glass and discard or keep the ice. You are ready to enjoy your skinny margarita!
Why Choose Lobos 1707?
The rich taste you’ll find in a bottle of Lobos 1707 Tequila is undeniably different. The brand was officially launched in 2020 by Osorio’s great-great-grandson, also called Diego. The brand has its roots with Diego Osorio back in the year 1707. The family began in the sherry production business back in Spain and came upon the rich tequila flavor after using the empty sherry casks to house the agave spirit in Mexico. Osorio would transport the tequila from Mexico to Spain, and the tradition continues today with a collaboration between Mexican and Spanish distillers.
Today you’ll find Lobos 1707 is a brand where more than 50% of the company is women, including the CEO and CMO. Charitable organizations associated with the brand include the Wolf Conservation Center (Lobos means wolves in Spanish) and the World Central Kitchen. Lastly, shareholders of the brand include heavy hitters like Lebron James and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
