What’s in your belly this week!
This last week of January 2018 has been big one for great eats in Los Angeles. New York City tastemakers, David Chang and Daniel Humm, have opened their West Coast outposts Majordomo and dining at The NoMad Hotel. Meanwhile we’ve been enjoying the last days of DineL.A. , and Fat Sal’s has given us another reason to get going on that personal trainer. Lastly, Glendale has got brand new Indonesian restaurant, Rinjani.
Indonesia comes to Glendale (Closed)
Centrally located near what’s being called Glendale’s “Restaurant Row”, Rinjani brings authentic, new-age Indonesian cuisine to our curious palates. The creation of Chef Mira Setiabudhi and her partner Rebecca, Rinjani combines the flavors of Indonesia with the current trends and ingredients of California. Chef Setiabudhi has been working in the restaurant business for 18 years with front-of-house positions with Matsuhisa and Daniel Boulud to name a few and chose Glendale as the spot for her first restaurant because of it’s ideal proximity to central Los Angeles and Pasadena.
What are you Eating
New to Indonesian food? Then I strongly recommend enjoying the Rijsttafel (rice table) which offers the best of everything the restaurant has to offer ($24.95 pp). Beginning top right to left you will find Ayam (chicken) Nasi Rames with rendang (braised ribeye); Talor Balado (egg in chili); vegetables in curry; and a series of side dishes like white rice, Longtong (rice cakes), fried tofu, fried tempeh, and potato fritters.
Eat everything along with me right here.
Must have appetizers include the Gado-Gado with egg, bean sprout, tofu, tempeh, potato, long bean, water spinach, chayote, peanut sauce and crackers; Satay with peanut sauce or sambal and your choice of meat; Roti Prata which is a fried flatbread with Indonesian chicken and curry sauce; and Siomay Bandung chicken & shrimp dumpling.
Best time try this? During their newly launched HAPPY HOUR, weekdays from 5-7 PM featuring $2 off all beer, wine, sake and apps.
What are you drinking?
Outside of happy hour treat yourself to an Es Cendal ($4.50) made with rice flour jelly, coconut milk and palm sugar.
