What is Melograno Cocktails?

Melograno Cocktails is a San Diego-based upscale canned cocktail brand created by husband and wife team Reza and Shiva Mortazavi. The flavors offer modern takes on classic cocktails and are made with Organic Ingredients and Natural Flavors. Melograno means Pomegranate in Italian, but the flavors don’t stop there.

The most significant difference between Melograno Cocktails and other canned cocktails is the use of Blue Agave Wine as a base instead of malt liquor. This allows for a more authentic recreation of liquor-based cocktails but at a much lower ABV (Alcohol By Volume), which is 5%.

The next detail that’s impossible to miss is how gorgeous these cans are! The design pulls elements from the “tilework of Europe to the delicate ceramics of the Far East… the vibrant fabrics of West Africa to the intricate patterns of the Middle East.” They were designed by Reza and Shiva Mortazavi, along with Sanam, Reza’s sister, who has a background in graphic design.

The Packaging is also Sustainable, and the cans are made without plastic sleeves for the design creation, as well as Compostable Outer Cartons. Through a Recycle Art Program, the cans receive a second life after events where they are recycled and then given to local artists to create something new with them.

Melograno Cocktails has been around since 2022, but they’ve already garnered over 25 awards, including the Double Gold at the San Francisco World Competition, Ready-to-Drink category in April 2023.

Orange Blossom Martini

My Favorite Melograno Cocktail Flavor

I have to admit I’m partial to the Pomegranate Cosmopolitan as it’s the richest taste offering with fruit flavors that explode as soon as you pop that top.
