Which Wine Pairs Best with Family Game Night?
It’s week 10,000 of the COVID-19 “Safer at Home” Order, and if you have kids then that’s probably as many times as you’ve played Candyland by now! Get ready to spice things up by answering the age-old question: which wine pairs best with family game night?
Note: This piece does contain affiliate links, but EatDrinkLA only endorses things they’ve enjoyed and would order again.
Why it’s never been a better time to join a wine club
You’re stuck at home and when you do go out you’re shopping for essentials and doing the six-feet-apart dance with the other customers. Wouldn’t you rather answer a six-question Palate Profile Quiz and have your wine carefully curated?
I gave Winc a go because it’s a California based winery with FREE Delivery and bottles you can’t get anywhere else. I also like the idea of someone knowing my tastes better than I know myself –it’s like a wine bar at your door! Afraid to trust someone else? You can send the ones you don’t like back for FREE!
Click here to get $22 off your first order! That’s 4 bottles for $39 with FREE Shipping!
Now on to the Pairing!
You don’t have to have Winc wines for this one as I’ve categorized it based on flavors as well as brands. I’m usually all about the reds but lately, I’ve been reaching for whites more – probably to make up for the lack of sweetness in all of our lives right now. Too deep? I promise I wrote this sober 🙂
Rosé Wine
The 2019 Summer Water® Rosé matches the name exactly: it tastes like summer and goes down like water. It’s a light wine with notes of lime zest, peach ring, strawberry, and watermelon.
Pairs Best With: Silly games that remind you there are brighter times ahead, like Candyland and Pop the Pig.
Sauvignon Blanc
This 2018 Far + Wide Grüner Veltliner is similar to a Sauvignon Blanc but it hails from Austria. It’s a dry wine with notes of candied lemon, honeysuckle, and wet stone. It was actually my favorite wine of the bunch.
Pairs Best With: Serious games like Monopoly and Life since it’s easy to drink and lowers the stakes a bit.
Red Wine
This 2018 Lost Poet® Red Blend is super jammy with notes of pomegranate, red cherry, strawberry, and violet. While not my favorite taste-wise, I love that the wine-maker is an author and I enjoyed the poem on the back of the bottle.
“Don’t be scared to change the prince’s name in your story“
Pairs Best With: Fantasy games like Dragon Snacks or anything where you have to delve into the unknown chasm of your memory.
Riesling
This 2019 Brethren of the Road® Riesling is not what you would expect as it’s not sweet at all. It has notes of honeysuckle, wet stone, white flowers, and white peach which translate to a very easy drinking experience.
Pairs Best With: Games like Trouble as in, you’re in a lot of trouble if you just had 4 bottles of wine during family game night 🙂

Love this!! We love family games, but had never thought of wine pairing them. Keeping this to share with my hubby. Thanks!
That makes me smile! You’re in for some fun 🙂
