Why you should be drinking RedThumb Natural Wines
It doesn’t take much to be called a natural wine. You just have to use the simplest production methods and the cleanest grapes available; however, there isn’t a designated checklist of things that must happen to make it “natural.” Recently I got introduced to RedThumb Natural Wines, and this is why you should be choosing them over all the other brands in your quest for the purest glass.

As I mentioned before, you can call yourself a natural wine, but never actually have to prove that you did anything to give yourself that title. At RedThumb Natural Wines, if it’s on the label then it’s in the bottle; so you know exactly what you’re drinking. In fact, there are only three ingredients in a bottle: grapes, native yeast, and a pinch of sulfur. Here’s what you can expect:
- Organic grapes farmed using dry farming practices at the vineyards they use in Navarra, Spain. It will be receiving a biodynamic certification next year
- No added sugars
- Minimal preservatives used and the EXACT sulfur count listed on each bottle (it’s much lower than what you’re used to)
- Wild fermentation using native yeasts found on the grapes which helps bring out the natural flavors
- Certified Vegan
Price Point
RedThumb Natural Wines is happy to be your go-to, just opening up a bottle on a Wednesday kind of wine. The price-point of between $15 and $18 a bottle makes it affordable but not cheap. After all, you deserve the best.
Sustainability
Did you know traditional wine corks made from cork wood cannot be thrown in the recycling bin? They have to go through a complicated process to be reused that many of us probably aren’t going to be thinking about once we’ve polished off a bottle of wine. RedThumb Natural Wines uses synthetic, recyclable corks that can be discarded in the same way you do the bottle.
Taste
All three RedThumb Natural Wines offer a classic wine flavor versus the funkiest of the funks that you might be used to with natural wines.
The Tempranillo can be described as “juicy” not jammy, with a Thumbprint of blackberries, plums, and violets with spices and oak. It has a bit of a bite and the taste changes with each new glass. The wine is aged in steel and cement and then finished in oak for three months. You can also serve it chilled.
Next, the Rosé is a full-bodied wine that is on the dryer side with hints of cranberries, raspberries, and fuji apples. It’s been aged in stainless steel and cement using indigenous yeast. This wine pairs easily with almost any meal.
Lastly, the Chardonnay has a light and crisp taste with hints of green apple, stonefruit, and butterscotch. This was easily my favorite of the three wines, and I’m generally always reaching for the reds, so this is a big endorsement. You’ll have to try them all for yourself, though.
Where you can buy
This brand started in New Orleans and will soon be stretching its “legs” into Los Angeles. Until it’s in stores here, you can purchase online at https://redthumbwine.com/natural-wines/.
Absolutely LOVE this wine. I’m a Chardonnay Girl myself and the first time I tasted RedThumb I thought I was drinking it for the first time! Heavenly. And I can drink red wine again and not get red cheeks and enjoy it! I love sharing it with friends and getting their first reactions.
